Shot peening is a type of blasting for surfaces that improves mechanical properties of metals. This surface treatment produces a surface plastic deformation (SPD).
Peening a surface spreads it plastically, causing changes in the mechanical properties of the surface. Shot penning induces a residual compressive stress in a peened surface, along with tensile stress in the interior. Surface compressive stresses confer resistance to metal fatigue.
Correct shot peening can also be used to form parts such as wing and fuselage panels, reducing manufacturing costs and improving reliability.
